WE MADE IT SAFE AND SOUND (Long Island Sound!!)

Hello from Noank, Connecticut (right next to Mystic)!! We made it to the boat safe and sound and we just this morning found an internet connection at the beautiful Mystic/Noank Library. We don't yet have the cable that connects our camera to the computer because we haven't yet gotten that FedEx shipment but we should have it soon and then we'll get some pictures up.

It has been an eventful few days. Here is a quick summary of what we've been up to. On the 12th we were still packing up until about 8:30 p.m.. It was a little bit crazy since we were putting stuff in suit cases, making the last run to FedEx to ship boxes to ourselves at the marina, and stopping by Goodwill to pitch that last pile of stuff we just did not need.

Luckily, our friends and neighbors Charles, DeAnna, Claire and Emma pursuaded us to have dinner out at the Lucky Labrador Pub in Multnomah Village before heading off to the airport. It was great to enjoy another meal with friends before taking off. And, it is always wonderful to enjoy a slice of pizza and a cold IPA after a HARD day of packing up. I also had a fantastic lunch at Karam with Francesca, Amy and Sandra before heading home to help with the packing. Thanks guys!!

The Lucky Lab dinner was the third nice meal with friends that we had in the same number of nights leading up to our trip. We had a great dinner with Jeff, Ruthanne, Gabe and Audrey and another one the next night with Gus, Claudine, Griffin Barrett and Aden. Thanks all for your hospitality and we'll be sending pictures out soon.

Our flight from Portland to JFK was delayed by 2.5 hours and we figured that out when we got to the airport. So, instead of leaving at 11:59 pm, we left at 2:30 am on 6/13. YAWN!! The kids slept really well on the plane but I can't say the same for Joanna and I.

My brother Jeff met us all at JFK and drove us out to the boat. By the time we got there and got unpacked we were pretty exhausted. So, we had a pizza delivered to the boat (which the kids thought was pretty cool) and then we turned in early.

The weather the first few days was pretty cold and clouded over but it has gotten REALLY NICE lately. We have had the boat out of the slip just once to take it over to the pump out station. There are still a number of things we need to do before we head out. Sails need to be put on and we also need to do one final check on the engine. But, things are proceeding along well and it is our hope to be out of port by the end of this week!!

We'll post more later but right now Emily and I will be taking the dinghy back from Mystic to Noank. We've walked a bunch this morning and we're ready for some lunch. The rest of the crew slept in but they just checked in by cell phone to let us know that we need to get back to work readying the boat.

We look forward to comments and hope all who are reading this will drop us a line or two. They show up as emails and then we'll publish them to the blog.

We have already had a bit of excitelment since our last post but I'll save to commentary until I get that cable to connnect the camera to the computer. A picture will be worth a thousand words. But, I can leave a clue, we're really getting into the sling of things now!!
